Cervical cancer is caused by a virus. Now you can prevent it by getting vaccinated.

All about vaccination

Vaccination, alongside regular smear tests and a healthy lifestyle, can offer you additional protection against cervical cancer. Your doctor will advise you if this is something you should consider.

Here we explain more about vaccination against cervical cancer, how it works, how effective it is, and the important part it can play in helping to prevent the disease.

However, it’s important to realise that while vaccination offers effective protection against developing cervical cancer – it does not give protection against all cancer-causing types of HPV, only the most common ones. Vaccination can not clear up any infections that you already have but it can help prevent future infections.  Attendance at your regular smear test is still necessary even if you have been vaccinated.
