Cervical cancer is caused by a virus. Now you can prevent it by getting vaccinated.

The importance of regular cervical smear tests

There has been huge success with smear testing in many countries around the world, which has reduced the incidence of cervical cancer. In the UK we have one of the world-leading programmes. Regular smear testing is the most effective way of detecting cervical cell abnormalities which may be the early signs of developing cervical cancer.

So although smear tests do not prevent infection with the virus that causes cervical cancer, they do help identify pre-cancerous changes so that treatment can be started, if needed. Many lives have been saved because the disease has been caught at an early stage as a direct result of cervical screening.

So, whatever you do, remember your smear test appointment.

CERVICAL CANCER. BE SMART. THINK PREVENTION.
